Lieberman's lesson for Liberal bloggers!

I think there is a huge lesson for all liberal bloggers to be learnt from Lieberman’s overdue debacle: WE NEED TO GET ORGANIZED! Yes, Liblogs/Progressive bloggers are both great initiatives but clearly not enough if we really want to make a difference in politics. In order to do that we must be able to: 1) put pressure on our own Liberal/progressive candidates to stay the course and not turn themselves in Lieberman-like puppets for Harper; 2) identify Tory candidates who are vulnerable in their districts and support financially their opponents; 3) highlight Conservative subservience and bias in the media. The question is: are we sufficiently motivated to engage in such an enterprise, or we need 4 or more years of Harper-rule and conservative non-sense to hit the bottom first and then start doing something about it?

Harper kills funding for scholarships!

Taking again a page from the neo-con playbook of lies and deceptions, Harper-the-Crook does what he knows best: pretend publicly to do one thing while secretly doing exactly the opposite. The Star reports: "The Harper government is poised to cancel federal funding for Canadian international academic programs, including Canadian participation in the Fulbright program, one of the most prestigious international scholarships. [..] Ironically, earlier this month, at the G-8 meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, Prime Minister Stephen Harper agreed to a statement that stressed the importance of international academic exchange programs. The cuts are the latest made by the Conservatives since they formed the government in February. Cuts already implemented, or planned, include: a national child-care program, the gun registry, the Canadian Unity office, and several environment-related programs such as the One-Tonne Challenge and the $44-million EnerGuide for Homes."

I can't wait the elections to vote out of office this gang of crooks! Driven by a twisted ideology, they are willing and ready to kill all educational and social programs that make a difference in the life of Canadians.

Harper and Orwell's 1984!

Harper continues unabated his assault on truth and decency! Does Canada really have to hit the bottom like US did with Bush to understand that Harper is a crook?

"Canadian teachers developing internet resource materials about climate change have been left in limbo since the Harper government quietly shut down the main government website on global warming, www.climatechange.gc.ca on June 30. The government had provided tools for teachers to help them teach Canadian students about climate change, but all of that information has now been removed.

In the past, Mr. Harper has questioned the science of climate change, calling it a “controversial hypothesis,” while his former environment critic Bob Mills went a few steps further calling the Kyoto Protocol, the international agreement to address climate change, “a great socialist plot.”

Harper keeps playing politics with people's lives...

Linda McQuaig (Toronto Star) nails nicely Harper's PR stunt in Cyprus : "Not since George W. Bush appeared on a U.S. warship declaring "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq has there been a more transparent — and ridiculous — attempt by a political leader to portray himself as a heroic defender of his people."

Lap-dog Harper has done it again....

The Star reports today that Harper is the only G8 leader to support again Bush's failed policy in the Middle-East. What the heck is this guy doing? Harper is throwing Canada into a very dangerous situation with no parliamentary debate, with no public consultation, nothing, only because he, like Bush, is a ne-con fanatic (no brain, only ideology). What's next? Sending Canadian troops to Iraq to please Bush? And where is the opposition when you need it?

Can Emerson be sued?

It appears now that Emerson was thinking about switching sides while campaigning as a Liberal. Is there any legal loophole that can be used for suing him for something like breach of contract or anything similar?

What does liberalism mean in the 21st century?

What direction should the Liberal party follow given the present conservative siege and public apathy to its social, environmental, and foreign policy agenda? Toronto Star suggested last week a few answers, but my guess is that there is nothing wrong with the substance of the Liberal agenda. It just needs a different packaging, a new generous idea that will re-define the public agenda in the same way in which Trudeau did with his "just society" concept. That will be the stake of the next election. This is how Liberals managed to stay in power for so long. Conservatives and NDP don't have a coherent vision either. They merely opposed whatever Liberals did. Liberals, and Progressives in general, must do better than that in order to win the next time around. The question is, what this idea could be? More...
